Riverside Park Gets Major Field Upgrades for Fall Season

We're thrilled to share that Riverside Park's two main baseball fields have received significant upgrades ahead of the fall season, thanks to a partnership between BATL and the City of Grand Rapids Parks Department.

Field 1 has been completely resodded with a premium Kentucky bluegrass blend, and the infield skin has been regraded and treated with a new clay mixture that improves drainage and reduces bad hops. New bases and pitching rubbers have been installed on both fields.

Field 2 has received new outfield fencing at regulation distances for 12U and 14U play, along with upgraded dugout benches and a new scoreboard. The scoreboard is manually operated and will be managed by a volunteer from each team.

Both fields now feature improved LED lighting for evening games, extending our ability to schedule games later in the day during the fall season when daylight hours are shorter. This will allow us to add a 6:30 PM game slot on weeknights.

We want to thank the City of Grand Rapids Parks Department for their partnership and investment in youth athletics, and to the BATL board members who spent countless hours coordinating this project. These improvements will benefit our players for years to come.
